The Seven Skin Method with Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich Toner
For the beauty blog aficionados out there, I’m wondering if you, like me, have noticed the increasing number of blogs and general hype over a new skincare technique: The Seven Skin Method. Well I’ve certainly taken note of this latest trend, so I decided to do some research on this latest technique, which like many great skincare ideas, was born out of the beauty hub that is South Korea. The Koreans brought us the 10 step skincare routine to the UK which you can read more about in a previous blog. Their tried and tested methods have been adopted by so many of us so I was intrigued to see what the Seven Skin Method was about. Simply put, it is the concept of layering a toner on your skin several times to thoroughly hydrate your skin. Korea knows beauty, they know skincare, and in my mind, they’ve nailed the Seven Skin Method.
What is the Seven Skin method? The Seven Skin Method is a skincare application technique where seven layers of toner are patted onto your skin one after the other. By patting on 7 layers of toner the skin can obtain maximum hydration by increasing the moisture level of the skin without the use of creams, serums and oils which can be heavy or greasy. The results lead to thoroughly hydrated, dewy skin that has an incredible glow and can be used on all skin types.
Purpose of toners and essencesSo many Buttermilk Skincare customers ask me what the difference is between an essence and a toner, and what the purpose of each step is. Both are really valuable steps which I would encourage you to not skip. A toner restores the PH balance of your skin after cleansing. (Interesting fact - the word toner and skin are the same in Korean.) The skin’s natural PH is 5.5. This is the optimal level for the skin and is the perfect level to keep your skin balanced and fight bacteria. Even if your skin is naturally at PH 5.5 and you use a low PH cleanser, beware as the water you use to cleanse your face may not be. Therefore, always use a toner that has a PH of around 5.5 to restore your skin’s PH and prep it for the next step in your routine. There are so many different toners available, we have K-Beauty toners for sensitive skin, acne prone, dry, combination etc… It is important to choose the right toner for your skin, so be sure to email us at email@example.com if you need any help. An essence has a thicker consistency to a toner and is used to hydrate and draw moisture into the skin. You can use an essence over a toner to get more hydration into your skin. We also have some toners which have an essence like consistency and are a cross between a toner and an essence. We stock some of these are toners such as the Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich Toner and Klairs Supple Preperation Toner. Using the Seven Skin Method is best with an essence type toner. We tested it out with Korea's Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich Toner, £28.25, but recommend you use a toner that suits your skin type. This particular toner though is great - it’s one of our newest additions, people having been dying to get hold of it in the UK and is one of our February bestsellers! Try not to use a toner that contains alcohol, or one with AHAs and BHAs. These will tend to dry out your skin and if layered on that many times may cause irritation. After using this Whamisa Toner with the Seven Skin Method it’s easy to see why it’s so sought after.
- For the first step take a cotton pad and drench it in the toner and gently wipe over the skin after cleansing.
- Then for the next six times, take some of the toner into your hands, rub together and gently press into your skin, patting until fully absorbed. Rubbing together warms the hands and increases absorption of the toner.
- Try and wait two minutes in between each step so the product is fully absorbed.
- Apply a light moisturiser after all 7 steps.
