product review: pyunkang yul essence toner
The Clean Beauty Saviour
In my quest to find clean skincare in Korea, I felt like all my Christmases had come at once when I came across Pyunkang Yul. I'd heard and seen much about their products and couldn't wait to get my hands on them. When I'm testing out a new skincare line, I make a beeline for the Essences or in this case, the Essence Toner! Their entire range of beautifully clean products deserve the hype [Vogue's article on natural K-beauty] and I couldn't wait to tell you about them.
The Brand: Pyunkang Yul
Pyunkang Yul is a renowned oriental clinic in Korea. Their aim is to accomplish healthy skin, totally in line with the Buttermilk Skincare mission. [Take a look at what E! have to say about Pyunkang Yul] Their products are simple and gentle, they don’t strip your skin and help to achieve balance. This means helping your skin to maintain the right level of oil and moisture. If the skin has the right balance, then it won’t over produce oil, which could lead to acne, or cause dryness. I’ve accepted the flaws on my skin, I no longer strive for the impossible “perfect skin”. I just want my skin to be balanced, free of acne (mostly), healthy, clean and not clogged full of products. [Gothamista's skincare routine with Pyunkang Yul is worth a watch]. Pyunkang Yul products help to rebuild your skin’s natural defence barrier, letting your skin defend itself, repair itself and be healthy. In short, their products really help to get glowing healthy skin.
The Essence Toner
The Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner is as clean as they come, cruelty free and vegan. I try to choose vegan products as much as possible and the whole Pyunkang Yul range, apart from two products, are vegan. (The Intensive Repair Cream and Nutrition Cream contain Beeswax.)
So why do I use the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner? Recently I've been migrating towards a more minimalist skincare routine. Take a look at our Clean Beauty blog to read up on some great products to use in a Clean beauty routine. I’ve found using less products in a single routine reduces the likelihood of my pores clogging up. Using an essence toner means if I want to use an essence in the morning or evening, I don’t have to use a toner as well. The Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner resets the skin’s pH after cleansing and has the consistency and nutrients of an essence to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin. Also, the pH of the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner is 4 to 5, similar to the pH of your skin.
The Essence Toner, much like all of the products from Pyunkang Yul, comes in a premium, attractive cobalt blue glass bottle, which you can also recycle. It comes with a dropper so you can drop out just the right amount to use without wastage. The consistency as you might have guessed is a cross between a toner and an essence, more on the essence side. It’s not sticky and absorbs beautifully into the skin. If I’m having a dull or dry skin day, I pat in an extra layer, and you can totally use the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner for the seven skin method.
7 is the magic number here and of those 7 ingredients, 91% is Milk Vecht Root Extract - an ancient root used in Chinese Oriental Medicine with amazing health benefits. It looks a bit like ginger in it's raw state, but it's known to strengthen the immune system, reduce inflammation and is a fabulous anti-oxidant. This gives my skin much needed nutrients and vitamins.
It doesn't have any unnecessary ingredients and it's fragrance free which makes it great for those with sensitive skin. These wonderfully simple 7 ingredients facilitate two main benefits:
- Delivers nutrients deep into the skin
- Provides intense hydration without overloading the skin
After continuous use, my skin has felt softer, looked more radiant and this might sound cheesy, but the best version of me.
What's great is that we have two sizes of the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner. A large 200ml for £15.50 for those that like what they've read and want to go all out! For those wanted to try a taster or take one travelling, we have a mini bottle at 100ml for £9.00.
