facing the facts 🔎
Our skin can tell us a lot about ourselves - and other people - so first impressions really do count. And what do others see first? That’s right; our faces. Did you know that humans are able to make 10,000 unique facial expressions? And that the average person can recognise 5,000 faces?
When it comes to taking care of the skin on our faces, there are a lot of myths floating around and it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.
One thing’s for certain though, Korean face masks (also known as sheet masks) are increasing in popularity and bring with them a huge number of benefits. So what are they, and what makes them different?
Korean sheet masks are usually single-use cotton pads that have been soaked in powerful skin-rejuvenating ingredients. They are often of the full-face variety and are designed to rest on the curves of your face, with areas cut out for your eyes, nose and mouth. While there, the masks infuse their active skin-smoothing ingredients into the skin for visible results in a short period of time.
So why do they work? Well, in actual fact, it can take upwards of twenty minutes for the ingredients in most moisturising creams to properly penetrate the skin, however they often have evaporated before this time. The sheet of the mask, however, forms a barrier between your skin and the air around it to lock the moisture exactly where it should be; on your skin.
You’ll be pleased to know that here at Buttermilk, we have a variety of sumptuous sheet masks to get that much-needed moisture into your skin. Our “Organic Flowers Hydrogel Mask” by Whamisa not only lifts and moisturises, but is also loaded with a powerful botanical serum which instantly brightens the skin. Not to mention, its extracts of Camellia, Chrysanthemum, Dandelion and Aloe Vera deliver a beautiful floral scent.
Suffering from sun damage or irritated skin? Our Aromatica Calendula Soothing Relief Sheet Mask is made from 100% organic cotton and contains 85% calendula extract to deliver instant relief. It’s extremely gentle on the skin, and its extracts of olive leaf ferment and bifida ferment are super nourishing.
And now for Korea’s best-kept skincare secret; rubber masks. Our Lindsay masks, once applied to the face, form a thick rubber layer creating that all-important vacuum between the skin and mask, allowing the nutrients to really sink in, soothe and brighten the skin. We have four of the iconic Lindsay masks available for you to try; Ice Hyaluronic, Purifying Charcoal, Energising Gold and Moisture Spirulina. We also have a helpful video to help you apply it!
