Essense Texture

As we welcome Atoclassic to Buttermilk Skincare, I wanted to share my experience of our latest brand and their beautiful skincare line, and how, traditional Korean medicine, Hanbang, has helped me to truly overcome acne.

I’ve never shied away from the fact that I’ve always had acne prone skin. After I had my daughter, things seemed to escalate and my skin reacted very badly to my breastfeeding. It felt as though all my nutrients and hydration was being stripped from me and a very hot oily summer last year left my skin in a mess. The bacteria spread across my forehead and chin, and started to creep up my cheeks, a place I’d never even had spots before. Owning a skincare business doesn’t mean I’m guaranteed to have perfect skin but this was getting out of hand and what was I to do? I tried a multitude of chemical exfoliation to unblock the hundreds of tiny whiteheads but it seemed to make my skin worse. I decided I needed to try and reset my skin.

Who are Atoclassic & what is Hanbang?

Woobo clinic in Korea created the Atoclassic line with herbal knowledge that has been passed down several generations. Hanbang is traditional Korean medicine using herbal medicine created by unique preparation methods and centuries of knowledge. Hanbang isn’t just about certain ingredients, it is how they have been blended and prepared. Atoclassic’s philosophy is based on 100 years of traditional herbal skin therapy. These products are targeted at restoring the skin and making the foundation of your skin healthy, not just specifically for acne prone skin. Yes, these products are a slightly higher price point, but I cannot stress the level of the quality of the herbal extracts they use. I think this company has a different model to some other skincare brands – I think their profit margins have been compromised by the cost of their ingredients to ensure they have products worthy of going on the skin. Hanbang skincare is amazing, it helps achieve what everyone wants, healthy glowing skin.

Testing Atoclassic

I test all the products that we sell at Buttermilk Skincare and I like to try one product at a time over a few days or weeks to measure the impact it has on my skin and overall routine.  After testing a couple of the Atoclassic products, I went in all in, and switched my entire routine to the Atoclassic skincare line (plus my trusty konjac sponge). I don’t believe in completely omitting chemical exfoliation from my routine, so I still used the Whamisa fruits exfoliating pads once a week. I used the Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Multi Cleanser (I used it twice in the evening), the Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Origin Toner, Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Origin Essence, Atoclassic Real Tonic Calming Smart Lotion and twice a week I used the Atoclassic Real Tonic Treatment Sheet Masks.

Atoclassic Results – why I love Hanbang

My first reaction was to recognise how high quality the products felt on my skin. It immediately reduced any redness, and left my skin with a slight glow and a more even tone. Atoclassic products focus on skin sensitivity and minimizing skin irritation and they managed to achieve that with my skin straight away. After 6 weeks I noticed my acne had gone from my chin and reduced by 50% on my forehead. Atoclassic was beginning to reset my skin back to a healthy state. I no longer had dry patches, I no longer had an oily T-Zone. I just had well balanced, glowing skin. If you have a goal of dewy, stronger, healthy skin then an Atoclassic skincare routine is just what you need.

I’m really excited to being Atoclassic to Buttermilk Skincare and during the launch, we will be offering two Atoclassic Sheet Masks for Free with every purchase of the full-size Atoclassic products!

Below is my honest review on each of the Atoclassic products.

Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Multi Cleanser

Hands down my favourite Atoclassic product! 11 kinds of herbal extracts and a ‘soothing’ description sounded promising. The key ingredient Codonopsis Lanceolata is rich in saponin, which has excellent cleansing power by being able to melt both water-soluble and oil-soluble ingredients. It effectively removes impurities and regulates the skin’s oil and moisture balance while protecting skin.

Atoclassic Cleanser

I was unsure what was causing the acne on my forehead so I dropped my oil cleanser (as fungal types of acne can feed off oil) and double cleansed with the Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Multi Cleanser instead. As a multifunctional cleanser, it removed my makeup incredibly well, but was so gentle on my skin. The PH of the cleanser is a mild 5-6, so there was no tightness in my skin which just felt balanced. As always, I used a konjac sponge to remove the cleanser, I feel it’s important to use tools to remove the dead skin cells and cleanser rather than just splash with water. It’s very light, has a jelly/gel like consistency and foams nicely. The scent is also light and fresh.

Major herbal ingredients of the Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Multi Cleanser: Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf, Codonopsis Lanceolata Root, Chrysanthellum Indicum, Clematis Chinensis Root, Lysimachiae foenum-graeci Herba, Xanthium Strumarium Fruit, Angelica Tenuissima Root, Pogostemon Cablin, Angelica Dahurica Root, Nardostachys Chinensis Root, Poncirus Trifoliata Fruit

Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Origin Toner

Atoclassic First Toner

The toner is the latest product from Atoclassic, and to be honest I didn’t think I could switch from my Aromatica toner or my Klairs supple preparation toner. But wow, this toner has a nice consistency, slightly essence-like but lighter than the Whamisa deep rich toner. I’ve done the seven skin method with the Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Origin Toner a few times and haven’t needed a moisturiser after. I feel like it really nourishes my skin. I have forgone my Missha Essence as I felt I was replicating the nutrients.

Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Origin Essence

Essense Texture

Essense Texture

The essence is Korea’s bestselling Atoclassic product and turned out to be the biggest weapon in my acne battle. The Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Origin Essence contains a whopping 20 herbal extracts! This Hanbang therapy is so concentrated you only need to use a small amount. I think this essence was the main reason my acne cleared up, the product claims to improve the skin’s ability to protect itself. It’s a gel like essence which looks similar to the Benton essence, but it’s so different. Any irritation from my acne is soothed immediately and all redness is calmed on my skin, this will be the chrysanthemum extract in the essence. The Korean herbal extracts in this essence are phenomenal with ginseng provides anti-ageing benefits, but I really can’t list out all the botanical extracts as there are so many! This is when I became sold on Hanbang, this product should be more expensive, the ingredients are extremely high in quality. Anti-aging, soothing, hydrating, target acne, this essence has it all. It really relieves stresses on the skin, I’m actually scared to stop using it.

Major herbal ingredients of the Atoclassic Real Tonic Soothing Origin Essence: Triticum aestivum, Buckwheat, Malt, Chrysanthellum Indicum, Chrysanthemum Sibiricum, Panax Ginseng Root, Astragalus Membranaceus Root, Paeonia Albiflora Root, Angelica Gigas Root, Atractyloides Macrocephala Root, Citrus Unshiu Peel, Forsythia Suspensa Fruit, Honeysuckle Flower, Poria Cocos, Angelica Dahurica Root, Licorice, Punica Granatum Fruit

Atoclassic Real Tonic Calming Smart Lotion

Atoclassic Lotion

The Atoclassic calming lotion is not sticky in the slightest. It’s very light and perfect for combination and oily skin types. With 16 herbal ingredients, the star ingredient is macadamia nut oil, which contains Palmitoleic acid similar to the lipids of the human skin as well as ceramide which retains the skin’s moisture by strengthening the skin’s barrier and protects the skin from external and harmful elements.

My skin felt plump and hydrated after using it and it works in tandem with the Atoclassic soothing essence. I’m not saying it’s unsuitable for dry skin types as dry skin can benefit from the medicinal roots in this lotion, and can then be layered with a facial oil or thicker cream on top.

Major herbal ingredients of the Atoclassic Real Tonic Calming Smart Lotion: Lithospermi Radix, Angelica Gigas Root, Coptis Chinensis Root, Portulaca Oleracea, Chickweed, Citrus Unshiu Peel, Elm Bark, Sophora Angustifolia Root, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root, Sanguisorba Officinalis Root, Licorice, Forsythia Suspensa Fruit, Astragalus Membranaceus Root, Xanthium Strumarium Fruit, Cnidium Monnieri Fruit

Atoclassic Real Tonic Sheet Masks

Atoclassic Masks

The masks are a fab addition to the Atoclassic routine. I tested them twice a week – once in the bath (which I find opens my pores and maximises the nutrients by absorbing them deep into my skin). These Atoclassic sheet masks are a great way to boost some Hanbang into your Korean acne prone skincare routine. The Atoclassic real tonic soothing treatment mask is super hydrating and definitely my favourite. It has a lot of anti-inflammatory ingredients including yellow lotus (Whangryun) so this mask is a must for those who are sensitive or have acne prone skin. I love the way it fits my face too, the essence is non-sticky and my skin is left hydrated, plump and with reduced redness. After this mask I can easily go foundation free. If I’m looking for brighter skin, the Atoclassic real tonic perfect treatment sheet mask is fantastic to get glowing skin. Slightly more expensive than the soothing mask but it’s a thicker mask. The sheet mask material itself is quite special (made of locust beans, carrageenan and konjac). It does feel more luxurious applying this sheet mask. The perfect mask also focuses on anti-ageing and lifting. A definite treat for the skin to make it look brighter and skin more radiant.

Atoclassic real tonic soothing treatment mask’s major ingredients:
– Coptis Root, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root, Phellodendron Amurense Bark, Forsythia Suspensa Fruit
– Atoclassic real tonic perfect treatment sheet mask major ingredients:
– Bletilla Striata Root, Mung Beans, Angelica Gigas Root
